This is the best way to make sure that you are getting enough natural resources for your plants in a controlled environment. When you need to use the greenhouse for whole year, you need to make sure that proper lighting is done. Light is one of the most important thing that you need to fix inside your greenhouse not only because it will look pleasant at night but also it will help the plants get proper light when natural light is not getting enough for them. This especially happens when you need to grow summer plants in winter season when light is low. This is how a greenhouse helps you in providing you with the optimum quantity and quality of light.

Choice of different lights:

As a beginner, it might be a hectic task for you to select the proper light and with the passage of time you will understand the purpose of different light options available in the market. If you want to get through it quickly, you can read this guide and make a general understanding about different options of lights that are available to you. The most common options are:

  • Cathode lights
  • Tube lamps
  • High intensity discharge
  • Fluorescent lighting

Fluorescent lights are just sufficient for small greenhouses. Most of people just need to install these bulbs and they will serve the purpose. But if you have a large sized greenhouse or you are using it for commercial purposes, you might need to invest more. In this condition, High intensity discharge might be the right option for you. They will produce more intense light for specific plants.

If you want to conserve energy and want to rely mainly on the natural resource, you can install mini light systems. These are easy to handle and are a perfect choice for the beginners. In these lights, reflectors and ballast are usually in the same housing space and that is why these are best for smaller setups.

Are lights really required to be installed?

This question might pop up in your mind whether you are in the need of light installation at the first place? The answer is a definite yes. Even if you own small elite greenhouses, you need to make sure that every plant is getting the optimum quantity of light which is sufficient for proper growth of that plant. Sometimes, when we grow plants with different heights, it becomes difficult for the natural light to reach the lower plants and this is where these lights serve the purpose.

Use of light timers:

Gardening is not an easy thing to do and most people forget a lot of things with regard to a proper gardening. They get lazy but this is not at all good for your plants. If you think that you can forget to switch on and off the lights on specific times, then you need to invest a small amount in light timers as well. These will ensure that your plants never get excessive light or are deprived of it.
